What is everyone's veiws on alpha-numeric paging? Who all uses the new pagers and how do they compare next to the voice pagers? Our County is getting the new system and pagers, I although the new system is amazing, I'm not liking the new pagers since you have to read them and can't "run and listen".

I have an alpha numeric pager. It's not a big deal. Yes, you have to read instead of listen, but it will be easier to get information from. Lets say you forget the address, instead of keying up on the radio and interrupting County, all you have to do is look at your pager. It is, in my view, much more efficient in the long run than traditional voice dispatching.

What about when you are on the road? Do you pull over and read, or do you just go to the station, then find out what it is? Or do you read and drive at the same time? I'm trying to gather as much info. as possible. I know many fire departments are exempt from the "Texting and Driving" law, so if we get into an accident and its because we read what was dispatched? We wouldn't be breaking any laws then right?
